The Egyptian Authority for Unified Purchasing (UPA) is supplying Zambia with a total value of $24 million of pharmaceutical supplies, according to an Egyptian Cabinet statement issued on Tuesday.

Egypt already shipped the first batch and is currently coordinating with the manufacturers to prepare and dispatch the second shipment.

This comes in line with Egypt’s vision to increase medical exports to African markets, said UPA’s CEO Bahaa El-Din Zidan.

During the meeting, UPA’s CEO stated that the authority is working on establishing 6 strategic drug stores across Egypt to provide medical products.

Earlier in July 2023, Egypt's Medical and Pharmaceutical Exports Council reported a 14% increase in the sector's exports in the first half of 2023, reaching approximately $530 million compared to $467 million in the same period last year.

The Council also reported that it aims to achieve a 30% annual increase in exports, following a well-defined and clear plan, to support Egypt's state plans for export growth and reach a target of $100 billion.
