The UN Secretary-General and several country leaders have confirmed that they will be attending Egypt’s International Peace Summit on Saturday.

The 2023 Egypt International Peace Summit will take place in the Administrative Capital to discuss means to de-escalate the situation in the Gaza Strip, help reach a ceasefire, and solve the decades-old conflict through the two-state solution.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry said the call for the summit reflects the gravity of the situation in the Gaza Strip.

So far, representatives from France, Greece, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Italy, and Cyprus have confirmed their attendance.  Al Qahera News, citing sources, stated that leaders from Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey would also be attending.

President El-Sisi welcomed Jordanian King Abdullah II earlier today, with both calling for an end to the violence and to allow humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza through the Rafah crossing on a sustainable basis.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres also arrived in Cairo on Thursday with a scheduled visit to the Rafah border crossing to announce the UN’s plan to send humanitarian aid to the strip. The UN website stated that Guterres will continue to pursue his diplomatic efforts, following his call for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire,” while in Cairo.

President El-Sisi and US President Joe Biden reached an agreement on Wednesday for entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Since then, a total of 150 convoys loaded with medical aid and food items, blankets, clothes, and shrouds are currently on the other side of the Rafah crossing, said Marwa Fakhri, the Executive Director of the developmental initiative "Haya Karima".

Protests erupted yesterday across Egypt in protest of the Israel-Palestine war on the strip, particularly against the bombing of Al Ahli hospital which has claimed close to 500 lives, according to Gazan authorities. President El-Sisi called for further protests to stand in solidarity with Palestine on Friday.
