The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) announced on Sunday that the volume of Egyptian medicine exports exceeded $300 million and the total exports of medicines, supplies and medical devices to more than 150 countries increased to almost $1 billion.

The Egyptian Drug Authority said it aims to significantly expand exports, especially in Africa. The first shipment of medical supplies was exported to Zimbabwe.

The Egyptian Drug Authority dispatched the first shipment of pharmaceutical products from a group of Egyptian companies to Zimbabwe. The shipment was sent in light of a tripartite partnership between Egypt, Zimbabwe and the UAE.

Earlier in May, a memorandum of understanding was signed between both Egypt and Zimbabwe in May 2023; to export high-quality Egyptian pharmaceutical products to Zimbabwe.

Localizing the drug industry is one of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s announced plans to achieve self-sufficiency in medicine and bring in the latest technology to manufacture medicine locally.

Tamer Essam, head of the Egyptian drug Authority, previously stated that by 2025 there will be a boom in the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt, as part of the strategy established since 2014 and Egypt's strategy 2030.
