Planning Minister, Hala el Said, announced that EGP 350 billion was allocated for the first stage of the presidential project Decent Life that aims to develop Egypt’s countryside. The announcement was in light of the June 30th revolution's tenth anniversary.

68% of the EGP 350 billion allocated went to the development of Upper Egypt. Some of the most significant villages involved in the first stages of the project are Umm Doma, Markaz Tama, Markaz Shebin-el Qanater, Shobak village, and Zawyet Saqr village among others.

El Said stated that the first stage of the plan includes 23,000 projects in 1,477 villages that would benefit 18 million citizens. The project aims to completely develop and reconstruct facilities in 20 governorates, while fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Jamil Helmy, Assistant Minister for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan, pointed out the first stage plan initiatives that include: 382 health units, a central hospital, 317 ambulance service units, 14,200 classrooms, 787 youth centers, all established to develop human services.

Helmy also highlighted some of the initiative’s 1st phase achievements which includes the completion of multiple service development units: 205 government service complexes, 776 post offices, 231 police points, and 259 electricity and lighting projects.

The Egyptian government is currently working on the second phase of the Decent Life initiative, which aims to cover 52 centers across 1,600 villages with a population of approximately 21 million.

In addition to that, the government has an initial target investment amounting to EGP 30 billion allocated to implement about 620 water and sanitation projects, rehabilitate and line canals with a length of 1,740 km, establish and develop about 3000 school classrooms, and complete the development of about 66 hospitals.
