Egypt grabs 8 places on Forbes ME’s 2023 Top 100 Travel & Tourism Leaders

Egyptian companies snagged 8 placements on this year’s Top 100 Travel & Tourism Leaders 2023 in the Middle East by Forbes ME.

Tourism continues to see a steady recovery, with the region’s travel and tourism industry being a major contributor to its economic growth and development, Forbes wrote.

In Egypt, tourist arrivals are growing with Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa Taha revealing last week that inbound tourism numbers were up by 43% during Q1 2023.

Leading the Egyptian entries on the list is EGYPTAIR Holding Company’s Chairman and CEO, Yehia Zakaria Ismail, who placed 13th on the list overall. According to Forbes, EGYPTAIR saw a 60% increase in the number of passengers flying with the company between July 2022 and March 2023.

Ismail was followed by Al Rayyan Tourism Investment Company (ARTIC) CEO and Managing Director, Tarek M. El Sayed at 25th place.

TMG Holding’s Hisham Talaat Moustafa placed 45th on the list as the 3rd top Egyptian travel and tourism leader.

Adel Waly, Executive Managing Director of state-owned Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels (HOTAC), took 52nd placed as Egypt’s 4th industry leader.

National airline Air Cairo’s Chairman and CEO, Hussein Sherif Fahmi took 53rd place.

Hossam El Shaer - Founder and Chairman of SUNRISE Resorts and Cruises; and chairman of SkyMax Holidays – ranked 69; followed by Hany Farag, CEO of National Corporation for Tourism and Hotels (NCT&H) at 78th place; Mohamed Awadalla, CEO of Time Hotels Management landed 91st place.

The list ranked Emirates Airline & Group chairman and CEO Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum as this year’s top industry leader; followed by Qatar Airways Group’s CEO, Akbar Al Baker at 2nd place; and Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism.

This year’s list was dominated by hospitality companies and hotels and resorts with 59 entries, followed by aviation (airlines and airports) with 31 entries.
