Value of Egyptian exports from COMESA dropped $15.6M in Dec. 2021| CAPMAS

Imports from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) economic bloc to Egypt saw a significant decline in December 2021, falling around $15.6 million.

Total value of Egyptian imports recorded at $15.8 million compared to $31.4 million in December 2020, explained the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

In its latest release, Egyptian imports from Tunisia dropped to $4 million in December 2021, down from $13.4 million in December 2020, while imports from Libya fell by $2.7 million to around $3 million.

The list of countries also included Egyptian imports from Zimbabwe, which amounted to $2.4 million last December, compared to $3 million in the same month in 2020, a decrease of $600,000. As for the rest of the COMESA countries, imports from them declined and amounted to $600,000 last December, compared to $9.7 million in the same month in 2020, a decrease of $9.1 million.

Egyptian exports to the Arab countries amounted to about $929.6 million last January, while they were $886.3 million in January 2021, an increase of about $43.3 million.

The list of countries that witnessed an increase in the volume of Egyptian exports to them included the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The UAE, Sudan and Libya, where the value of Egypt’s exports to Saudi Arabia amounted to about $195.1 million last January, compared to $166.4 million in January 2021, an increase of $28.7 million.
