MOIC and MCIT launch Joint National Task Force on Technology & Innovation with UN

The Joint National Task Force on Technology and Innovation Initiative aims to encourage partnership with the Egyptian government and the private sector to strengthen technology and innovation hub

Aiming to strengthen cooperation between national authorities and UN agencies working in Egypt and better harness modern technologies to drive development, Ministries of International Cooperation (MOIC) and Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) launched a new initiative with the United Nations, with participation of nine other ministries.

The Joint National Task Force on Technology and Innovation Initiative aims to encourage partnership with the Egyptian government and the private sector to strengthen technology and innovation hub as one of the key working hubs to achieve success, said Amr Talaat, Minister of Technology and Information Technology.

It will hold a number of workshops to formulate non-systematic and innovative government projects that are technology-based, innovative, and based on the latest technologies.

Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, said technology and innovation are key pillars to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2020. With modern technologies playing a vital role at all growth levels from eliminating poverty, promoting sustainability, ensuring and ensuring food security, accelerating the transition to Green economy, raising private sector competitiveness, development of smart cities, and more, she added.

The initiative is part of Egypt’s cooperation, represented by the MOIC, and the Joint National Team on Digital Transformation and Innovation, working towards improving the mechanisms of coordination and dialogue between all relevant parties from the government, development partners, the private and community sectors, explained a statement.

It is within the framework of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's duties to prepare the Strategic Framework for Partnership with the United Nations for Sustainable Development for the period 2020 to 2020 which represents the cornerstone of development cooperation between the United Nations and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Fostering the country’s digital transformation comes one of the top priorities of the United Nations efforts in Egypt, through the JTDI National Digital Innovation Team in Egypt, the UN is working on boosting technology and digital solutions to boost growth Inclusive, sustainable, and achieving the UN goal of no one behind development, explained Elena Panova, Coordinator-in-Resident of the United Nations Office in Egypt.

Panova added that the first UN Joint Team on Digital Innovation and Innovation Workshop is an attempt to drive progress in the framework of joint cooperation between relevant parties to strengthen digital and innovation cooperation with our partners in the Egyptian government and the private sector. Civil society and international institutions, to accelerate work towards achieving the development agenda Sustainable 2030.
