The Suez Canal Authority revealed the canal’s Q1 2022 revenues as $1.691 billion, up by 20% compared to 2021’s $1.409 billion for the same period.
Navigation statistics for the canal during Q1 2022 saw a significant increase by number and tonnage of vehicles moving through the canal, noted Head of Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie.
In the months of January and March 2022 (Q1), 5,303 ships, compared to 4,581 ships in 2021’s Q1 (15.8%+), traveled through the canal.
In terms of tonnage, an uptick of 7.4%, 21.6 million tons, while net loads were 313.3 million tons, were recorded in Q1 2022.
The positive inclines within the navigational reports and the increase in average daily ship transit numbers in Q1 reflect the maritime transport market’s recovery, as well as the significant growth in the global trade movement, explained Rabie.

The SCA head added that the authority is eager to deal with various challenges facing the maritime transport market by adopting a package of flexible marketing policies through which it can keep pace with market changes and take into account the interests of customers.
