Egyptian restaurants secure 4 spots on inaugural Top 50 Best MENA Restaurants list

Launched by the same publication that releases the annual World's 50 Best Restaurants list, the new list shines a “much-deserved spotlight on the region as a world-class culinary destination.”

The MENA region’s culinary and hospitality sector continue to bloom and develop with the launch of the inaugural Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants list, celebrating gastronomy across the region and providing diners around the globe with local insight and culinary recommendations.

Launched by the same publication that releases the annual World's 50 Best Restaurants list, the new list shines a “much-deserved spotlight on the region as a world-class culinary destination.”

Egypt-based restaurants secured 4 spots on the list, giving the Best Restaurant in Egypt 2022 award to Baky Hospitality Group’s Sachi (original branch in Heliopolis) which was ranked 5th overall in the region.

Japanese restaurant Kazoku, also founded by Baky Hospitality, took 19th place to rank as Egypt’s 2nd top restaurant, which the list described as serving “up authentic dishes inspired by the Japanese culinary heritage.”

Homegrown Egyptian street food restaurant Zooba is Egypt’s 3rd entry, ranked 38th overall, with Cairo’s first Nikkei restaurant Izakaya follows in 45th.

The Middle East & North Africa’s 50 Best Restaurants list was dominated by the UAE with a whopping 19 entries and 3 spots on the top 5. Dubai-based 3-Fils took the top spot on the list, followed by Zuma (Dubai), OCD Restaurant (Tel Aviv), Trèsind Studio (Dubai), and Sachi.

In a recent Central Bank of Egypt report, the bank revealed that Egypt’s tourism revenues increased during the first quarter of the current fiscal year by 253.3% YoY.
