In a few short days, hundreds of open water swim athletes and enthusiasts will swam Egypt’s beautiful sandy beaches down at Somabay as Egypt hosts the world championship finals for international open-water swimming competition Oceanman between the 2nd and 4th of December 2021.

“We are thrilled to host the final round of the biggest and most prestigious swimming event worldwide, in cooperation with Oceanman. Seeing how Somabay is a sensational holiday getaway that overlooks the most exquisite deep turquoise waters and enjoys the finest sandy beaches, this event promises to be a bountiful all-around travel experience.” Stated Ibrahim El-Missiri, CEO of Abu Soma Touristic Development Company, which owns and operates the Red Sea area.

This will be the 2nd year that Egypt hosts the Oceanman Championship, with it being the very first time it will be held in Red Sea’s Somabay.

”The championship’s finalists and qualifiers will gather in Somabay for the 2-in-1 grand finale. This exceptional arrangement allows amateur contestants the opportunity to compete alongside elite professional swimmers from around the world. Amateur participants get to compete in the open category [without prior qualifications],” said Cherif Fathy, CEO of Boost Egypt, the organizing committee of the championship in Egypt.

Fathy expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for supporting the competition, allowing Egypt to host the event for the second time in a row. He also thanked the Egyptian Swimming Federation and the Oceanman team for their efforts in making the event happen.

Around a total of 3,000 attendees from 45 different countries, including 1500-2000 swimmers ranging between professionals and amateurs, are expected to come for the event. The winners of the event will receive money prizes from 10,000-15,000 Euros.

“Somabay happens to be among the top-rated tourist attractions that endorse sports tourism; be it athletic-leisure events or outdoor adventures. Not only do we make available an extraordinary locale, luxurious facilities, and prime hospitality & accommodation to our guests but we also promote healthy invigorating lifestyles. We are particularly passionate about contributing to the Egyptian government’s directives and endeavors to turn the Red Sea region into a world-class hotspot & destination of choice for sports travel enthusiasts.” El-Missiri reiterated.

Offering attendees the optimal athletic and luxury experience is official hotel partner for the event, Sheraton Somabay.

Home to 5 luxury resort hotels and signature portfolio of residential properties, Somabay is a prime touristic destination in Egypt, idyllically situated on the Red Sea’s coast (just a 20-minute drive from Hurghada International Airport and only a 4-hour flight from Central Europe). Nestled on 10 million square meters of landmass, the self-contained community of Somabay is surrounded by sea on three sides.
