Under the MoU, Egypt will provide support to the Zambian government for its digital transformation efforts
With the aim of boosting cooperation between Egypt and Zambia in the fields of technology, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and the Minister of Technology and Science in Zambia Felix Mutati have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU is between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Zambian Ministry of Technology and Science, and targets several ICT-related fields, most notably digital transformation, postal services, institutional development, capacity building, skills development, Artificial Intelligence (AI), e-learning, digital inclusion, and international infrastructure.
Talaat emphasized that Egypt is strengthening cooperation ties with all African countries, adding that relations between the country and Zambia are growing on multiple levels.
Mutati explained that the cooperation will utilize Egypt’s experience in ICT fields to support Zambia’s efforts to achieve digital transformation. He also pointed out that digital transformation cannot be achieved by one country only, but is achieved through establishing partnerships.
Under the MoU, Egypt will provide support to the Zambian government for its digital transformation efforts by facilitating the establishment of partnerships with multinational and local companies, digitizing the government, supporting digital inclusion in Zambia.
It will also provide support for Zambia in its work to boost its international bandwidth, e-learning, capacity building, and skills development, in addition to providing training opportunities for Zambian youth and calibers.
The two ministers also reviewed prominent proposed areas of cooperation between the two countries in ICT and implementation mechanisms to serve common interests.
Both countries also agreed to cooperate to provide postal services to expatriates in the two countries, with Mutati stating that he looked forward to leveraging Egypt’s experience in postal development to improve Zambia Postal Services Corporation (ZamPost) and upgrade its services.
Additionally, they agreed to collaborate on developing Zambia’s ICT and international infrastructure, ICT regulations, as well as developing an enabling environment for entrepreneurship and startups in the country, and stimulating digital innovation.
