The Suez Canal witnessed on Tuesday the transit of the mega container ship CMA CGM VENDOME on its first voyage through the canal as part of the northbound convoy.
Chairman of Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, said geopolitical challenges in the Middle East have reshaped the maritime transport market and global supply chains, making shorter transit times and operational cost savings key factors in attracting the world’s largest and most advanced container ships back to the Suez Canal instead of rerouting via the Cape of Good Hope.
The Suez Canal witnessed on Tuesday the transit of the mega container ship CMA CGM VENDOME on its first voyage through the canal as part of the northbound convoy.
Rabie said the vessel’s transit clearly reflects the Suez Canal’s strategic importance, readiness, and capability to accommodate the latest and largest container ships in the world, reaffirming its position as the most efficient and sustainable route for global trade flows between East and West.
He added that CMA CGM operated 104 voyages through the canal between January and May 2026, with total tonnage reaching 12.5 million tons, underscoring the shipping line’s reliance on the canal and its position as one of the world’s most important maritime corridors.
Rabie also noted that the Suez Canal has recently enhanced the level of its maritime and navigational services and introduced new services to meet customer needs while ensuring the highest standards of maritime safety for mega vessels.
