Telecom Egypt and Sudan’s Sudatel sign MoU to boost connectivity cooperation

The new MoU looks to optimally utilize the network connecting the countries, and further develop it with the latest technologies to support the transportation of international traffic

Boosting cooperation in the field of international connectivity between Egypt and Sudan, Telecom Egypt (TE) and Sudan’s Sudatel Telecom Group singed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on Wednesday.

The new MoU looks to optimally utilize the network connecting the countries, and further develop it with the latest technologies to support the transportation of international traffic.

It will also link linking the Sudatel landing station in Port Sudan and the Egyptian communications landing stations in the Red Sea and the submarine cables in it, according to a statement.

Adel Hamed, Managing Director and CEO of TE, states the MoU with Sudatel allows for the exchange of experiences, while maximizing benefit from the current connection between Egypt and Sudan.

The agreement will also work to create new opportunities for international connectivity through submarine cables with the aim of pushing towards digital transformation in Egypt and the region, he added.

The MoU highlights TE’s strategy which aims to connect with its neighboring countries, including the rest of Africa. The aim is to achieve comprehensive digital transformation in Africa.

Telecom Egypt recorded a net profit of LE 4.9 billion during 2020, marking an increase of 10 percent on a year- on year basis (YoY).
