Egypt has secured a place among the top tier nations in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) for 2023-2024, released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

This achievement places Egypt among a select group of 47 nations, and further distinguishes it as one of the top 12 nations within this elite category.

Egypt achieved a perfect score of 100 points across all ITU criteria, surpassing 194 other countries worldwide.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the nation’s commitment to cybersecurity, particularly when compared to its 2020 score of 95.48 points.

The GCI, issued biennially by the ITU, evaluates nations based on five key criteria: regulatory policies and legislation, institutional framework, human capacity building, technical and technological capabilities, and international cooperation.

Egypt has consistently excelled in all these areas, demonstrating its comprehensive approach to cybersecurity.

This remarkable progress is attributed to the pivotal role played by the National Computer Emergency Response Team (EG-CERT), which operates under the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.

The implementation of the National Cybersecurity Strategy (2023-2027) has further bolstered Egypt’s cybersecurity posture.

Egypt’s commitment to raising public awareness regarding cybersecurity risks and threats faced by individuals and institutions has also been instrumental in achieving this success.
