Suez Canal revenues reached EGP 13.3B in September 2022 | CAPMAS

CAPMAS revealed that the net tonnage that crossed the Suez Canal in September reached 119.6 million tons, compared to 111.6 million tons in the same month in 2021

The Suez Canal’s revenues saw a significant growth in September, climbing around 51% to record EGP 13.3 billion, compared to September 2021’s recorded EGP 8.8 billion, revealed the latest data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The total number of ships transiting through the canal reached 2,025 ships last September, up by 9.1% when compared to September 2021’s 1,856 ships.

In terms of oil tankers moving through the canal, 628 tankers passed through during September 2022, compared to 453 tankers in the same month in 2021, recording an increase of 175 oil tankers.

CAPMAS revealed that the net tonnage that crossed the Suez Canal in September reached 119.6 million tons, compared to 111.6 million tons in the same month in 2021.

Earlier this month, Suez Canal Authority (SCA) head Osama Rabie expects the Suez Canal’s revenues to reach $7.80 billion by the end of the year, he previously stated that Suez Canal’s revenues hiked by 27.2% year-on-year (YoY) in October 2022.

In September, Rabie announced that the Suez Canal would raise transit tolls in 2023, citing global inflation and rising prices.
