The Egyptian petroleum and gas sector saw the signing of seven memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements focused on sustainable practices on the sidelines of COP27, revealed the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in a statement yesterday.
The MoUs are in line with the Ministry’s efforts to improve the oil and gas industry’s carbon-cutting capabilities, as well as boost its environmental sustainability while capitalizing on the expertise and practices of relevant global companies, explained Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla.
These include an MoU between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Shell Egypt to establish a framework for managing greenhouse gas emissions, and an MoU signed by EGAS, SeaSplit Technologies, and General Electric to decarbonize industrial activities along the Gulf of Suez.
Additionally, the Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas Co., a Bechtel-led consortium, comprising the Engineering for the Petroleum & Process Industries (Enppi), Baker Hughes, and PETROJET signed an agreement to study the feasibility of recovering gas flares.
An agreement between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), EGAS, and TotalEnergies will see the three evaluate the technical and economic viability of decarbonization solutions in the local petroleum sector.
An initial agreement was signed by EGAS, the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), and Japan's Toyota Tsusho Corporation to study the feasibility of a blue ammonia project.
EGAS also signed an MoU with Microsoft Egypt on a sustainability roadmap for the Egyptian company.
