Egypt is allocating LE 200 million to for the Ministries of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities for the 2020/21 fiscal year (FY), states Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-said.

In a statement, the minister said that the financing approval came as part of the political leadership’s interest in the national road projects that are being implemented.

The plan will allocate LE 100 million to each ministry, with particular focus on quickly completing the development of a new ring road. El-said stressed that the state is taking important steps to implement national road projects and its important benefits for Egyptian citizens.

She also noted that the increase in government spending on the country’s road systems has contributed to a significant reduction in traffic accident rates.

The Ministry of Planning is eager to support and following up on the implementation of the national projects currently under way, she added, saying that the development of the Ring Road aims to raise the level of road services, by implementing expansion works that will ensure the road can carry more vehicles.

Last October, El-Said agreed to reinforce the Ministry of Transport’s plan for FY 2020/21, under the General Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport (GARBLT). It will be given LE 1 billion with which to complete the implementation phases of the project to develop the Ring Road around Greater Cairo, and to ensure that it is completed according to schedule.
