Suez Canal revenues up by 13.6% to hit $629M in April | SCA

Revenues of the first 4 months of 2022 were recorded at $2.3 billion, an incline of 18.4% when compared to the same period in 2021

The Suez Canal continues to see positive gains, recording its highest monthly revenue in the canal’s history at $629 million last month, up by 13.6% compared to April 2021’s $553.6 million.

According to Suez Canal Authority (SCA) head, Osama Rabie, the first four months of 2022 saw an increase of 13.1% in the number of ships moving through the trade route to hit 7232 ships, with the amount of net tonnage transiting the canal at 427.9 million tons, up by 6.5% compared to the same period last year.

Revenues of the first 4 months of 2022 were recorded at $2.3 billion, an incline of 18.4% when compared to the same period in 2021.

Rabie told Egyptian TV on Tuesday that the Russia-Ukraine conflict weighed on the canal's revenues in April, but that the "positive effects were more powerful than the negative."

The SCA head also revealed that for April 2022, an increase of 6.3% was seen in the number of ships crossing the international trade route, recorded at 1929 ships, compared to 1815 ships in April 2021.

The total net tonnages amounted to 114.5 million tons, compared to 110.2 million tons in April of last year, an increase of 3.9%.
